Trump Administration Launches TrumpRx.gov to Cut Prescription Drug Costs

Pfizer signs landmark deal to sell medicines directly to consumers at discounted rates, aiming to align U.S. drug prices with global standards.

In a major move to tackle high prescription drug costs, President Trump announced a partnership with Pfizer on Tuesday to sell medications directly to consumers at discounted prices through a new federal website, TrumpRx.gov. The initiative marks a step toward aligning U.S. drug prices with those in other developed countries, a concept known as most-favored-nation pricing.

Joined by top health officials, including the National Institutes of Health Director and the Health and Human Services Secretary, Trump emphasized the imbalance in global drug costs. “American consumers have been subsidizing research and development for the entire planet,” he said, adding that the new program seeks to reverse this unfair situation. Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla described the initiative as “turning the tide” on global pricing inequities.

The TrumpRx.gov platform, set to launch in 2026, will redirect consumers to participating pharmaceutical companies’ direct-to-consumer websites to place orders. Pfizer has agreed to offer its drugs at prices reportedly 50% lower on average, though specific details of the agreement remain confidential.

Officials noted that the program is primarily intended for patients who do not use health insurance. In some cases, discounted prices may still be higher than pharmacy counter prices for insured patients, given the way drug list prices are calculated in the U.S.

The administration also indicated that similar arrangements with other drugmakers are in progress, signaling a broader effort to make prescription medications more affordable for Americans.
