New Brunswick Expands Curbside Recycling Under EPR Program

New Brunswick expands its EPR program under Circular Materials' leadership to give improved waste management and recycling services to communities and schools and First Nations institutions.

The EPR program expansion led by Circular Materials will expand New Brunswick's packaging and paper recycling management beginning May 1, 2025. The new service expansion provides recycling services and waste management to 20,000 new family homes together with 133 schools and 10,000 multi-family residential buildings.

Every community in New Brunswick can now benefit from consistent curbside recycling services as a result of this historical achievement. New Brunswick leads the Atlantic provinces by becoming the first to implement a complete EPR model thus establishing sustainable recycling principles across the province.

The expansion of services demonstrates the collaborative capabilities and the provincial dedication to circular economy development according to Allen Langdon who serves as CEO of Circular Materials. The non-profit organization collaborates with Recycle NB and First Nation communities to guide the initiative under their producer compliance support.

New Brunswick's First Nation communities including fourteen out of fifteen different communities started participating in the program as they work toward transitioning to its standards. Thus, the waste management system demonstrates both accessibility and inclusion for communities.

Through The Gaia Project youth will gain education about recycling practices through an upcoming program which includes curriculum-based workshops and toolkits.

According to Recycle NB CEO Timothy LeBlanc the program improves recycling infrastructure throughout New Brunswick by creating simpler ways for people to take part.

A registration period starting May 31 will lead to the next phase deployment on November 1, 2025. The province will implement public space recycling in 2027 as part of a new five-year Stewardship Plan that will direct waste management throughout New Brunswick.
