UAE’s new legislation for online retailers

The UAE has introduced a new e-commerce law, aiming to enhance the competitiveness of the business sector through a proactive and forward-thinking strategy.

According to a top official, the UAE has introduced a new e-commerce law with a proactive and forward-thinking strategy targeted at improving the competitive ability of the business sector in the Emirates.

Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, introduced the law and stated that the UAE is gradually moving towards a new economic model with resilience, innovation, and entrepreneurial thinking as its main tenets.

The goal of the law is to encourage the expansion of trade by utilizing cutting-edge technology and building intelligent infrastructure across the nation.

Digital traders and other service providers are not subject to any new regulations as a result of the law. It controls returns and exchanges of goods and services while safeguarding the interests of the customer.

Al Saleh emphasized that the new law takes into account future advancements and does not restrict the supply of commerce to particular technological means, like blockchain or digital, but rather encompasses any contemporary technological means, whether they are now in use or not. As this legislation primarily depends on technology and its continuous improvements to conduct trade, it also helps to achieve the need for technological neutrality.

Al Saleh affirmed that the legislation will enhance the legislative and economic framework, promote investment, diversify commercial operations, ensure customer service quality, and generate job opportunities.
