Starlink Gears Up for India Entry with Security Demos in Mumbai

Elon Musk’s Starlink will showcase its technology to Indian authorities, highlighting its readiness to meet the country’s security and compliance standards.

Elon Musk’s Starlink is preparing to take a big step toward its official entry into India. The company will hold a series of demonstrations in Mumbai on October 30 and 31, aimed at showing that its satellite broadband service meets India’s security and technical guidelines.

People aware of the plans said the trials will be conducted in front of law enforcement and government officials using a provisional spectrum assigned to the company. These sessions are part of the final checks needed before Starlink can begin full-scale commercial operations in the country.

The demonstrations are expected to highlight Starlink’s adherence to the Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) framework, which sets out India’s rules for satellite communication providers. A major focus will be on proving that the company’s systems are secure, reliable, and capable of protecting user data.

Globally, Starlink operates more than 7,500 satellites and remains the world’s largest satellite internet provider. In India, it will join other approved operators such as Reliance Jio-SES and Bharti-backed Eutelsat OneWeb.

As India pushes to expand connectivity in remote regions, satellite networks like Starlink’s could play a crucial role. The company has already agreed to store all Indian user data locally, in line with government regulations, underscoring a shared commitment to security and digital self-reliance.
