Distributed across industries, digital twins support smart infrastructure in manufacturing, transport, water management, and urban planning to optimize and improve operations and facilitate sustainability.
Every industry sector is digitalizing into digital twins promising solutions to enhance efficiency and operations. In manufacturing, for instance, Wärtsilä Voyage services is using digital twins to do training simulations and optimize fuel consumption in their systems, all was done digitally based on the ship systems, modeling out how they can potentially save money on those.
Nvidia's digital twins are helping Foxconn configure layouts for factories more efficiently using AI and sensors for process automation and efficiency. Hitachi Construction Machinery too has developed a digital twin platform that enables remote control of the construction sites and autonomous machinery.
Institutions such as Heriot Watt and the University of Glasgow have also created applications for virtual twins of decarbonizing transport (with contribution from Carnegie Mellon and Fujitsu for traffic management). Moreover, the Trinity River Authority applied digital twin technology to improve water treatment operations and decision-making.
Digital twins would be the foundation of intelligent infrastructure and supporting enhanced efficiencies, assurance, and sustainability across varying industry production lines-from manufacturing to city planning.
