Shield AI and Destinus collaborate to enhance the use of software autonomy across numerous UAS frameworks.
The partnership between Shield AI and Destinus has been announced, under which Shield AI will implement Hivemind autonomy software for missions into several Destinus uncrewed aerial systems. The joint venture, announced in Rotterdam, aims to develop scalable autonomy infrastructure compatible with various aircraft models.
This integration will be integrated with the Ruta and Hornet UAS platforms of Destinus and integrated with the V-BAT aircraft of Shield AI to allow all systems to exchange information and dynamically adjust flight behaviors. The companies confirmed that they will complete an interoperability demonstration by 2026.
Hivemind, the modular autonomy software framework, is aimed at coordinating various UAS assets, resulting in reconnaissance and strike platforms cooperating as a network. Shield AI noted that the software improves operations by increasing the control over missions and maintaining human operators, providing mission-driven support as opposed to overturning the decision-making.
The collaboration falls in line with more extensive European defense activities, such as uncrewed support for Ukraine. The companies are going to present additional updates at the Netherlands Defense and Security Exhibition, where both companies will exhibit together.
Shield AI and Destinus also seek to speed up the second phase of interoperable AI-operated UAS operations in Europe by increasing the use of sophisticated autonomy software.
