Global enterprises in the OEM storage systems segment have witnessed a decline in revenue by 2.1 percent. However, Capacity shipped has grown by 11.3 percent in the last 12 months to almost 23.8 exabytes. Another segment that witnessed a growth of 2 percent was ODMs, who sell directly to the hyperscale data centers. The above-mentioned figures are from the latest quarterly tracking report from IDC, a popular analyst firm. We must note that last year IDC had stopped reporting vendor revenues in the enterprise storage segment, and the company was instead reporting market share and vendor numbers.
Going forward, IDC is now revealing OEM market revenue along with the top-five supplier chart share. IDC research analyst for Infrastructure Platforms and Technologies Group, Greg Macatee, stated that China was the only region that witnessed growth during the last quarter of 2020. More than 30 percent of growth was reported every year, backed by strong support from the vendors that are locally headquartered. One of the other storage segments that witnessed growth was the ODM direct segment which has grown by 2 percent. The latest reports from IDC show that disk capacity sales are gaining momentum ad it is growing faster when compared to enterprise SSD sales.
