Airtel Gabon and Moov Africa Sign Major Telecom MoU

Airtel Gabon and Moov Africa-Gabon Telecom partner to pool infrastructure, increasing network coverage, digital services and affordability throughout Gabon's telecom sector.

Airtel Gabon and Moov Africa-Gabon Telecom have entered into a historic memorandum of understanding (MoU) to share their digital infrastructure to improve telecom connectivity and advance the digital transformation of Gabon. The agreement was facilitated by Gabon's Ministry of Digital Economy, Digitalization, and Innovation, which stressed that the collaboration will maximize investment, minimize deployment costs and ultimately bring down service costs to the customer.

Under the MoU, both of the telecom providers will jointly manage telecommunication towers and related infrastructure. This cooperation is likely to lead to better network coverage, improved digital service quality and enhanced competitiveness in mining in Gabon's regional pole. The initiative also advocates digital inclusion by increasing access to modern telecom services in urban and rural areas.

Zouheir Jorio, CEO of Moov Africa-Gabon Telecom, noted some of the twin objectives of the partnership: "To provide better network availability and reduce the anarchic proliferation of pylons that are sometimes spoiling the visual landscape."

"Obviously we are still competitors, but there are some realities in which we all have to work together," Airtel Gabon CEO Tom Gutjahr said. "Sharing telecommunications towers means making digital services accessible to and affordable for everyone.'"

The MoU is a major leap forward in the telecom sector of Gabon for collaboration between major players and, at the same time, ensuring sustainable infrastructure development. Both companies seek to set a precedent for future partnerships that increase the efficiency, lower the cost, and improve the overall quality of telecom services for the nation's citizens.

This strategic move is a great example of how telecom collaboration can import innovation and connectivity and propel economic growth in emerging digital markets.
