Qatar Airways is pleased to announce that Eng. Badr Al Meer has taken over from H.E. Mr. Akbar Al Baker as Group Chief Executive Officer at Qatar Airways Group.

With 27 years of unmatched service, H.E. Mr. Akbar Al Baker has retired, and Qatar Airways is pleased to announce that Eng. Badr Al Meer has taken over as Group Chief Executive Officer at Qatar Airways Group.

The multibillion-dollar aviation, construction, and real estate development projects that Eng. Al Meer pioneered over the course of two decades have shaped his illustrious career, which also reflects Qatar's succession planning for a future generation of leaders.

Since 2014, Eng. Al Meer has served as the Chief Operating Officer of Hamad International Airport, where he has been in charge of several important divisions, including MATAR, the Qatar Company for Airports Operation and Management.

During his tenure at Hamad International Airport, Eng. Al Meer expertly guided the airport through unprecedented challenges and major turning points which drew over a million visitors.

The first half of the fiscal year saw Qatar Airways Group post spectacular profits of $1.026 billion, up more than 100% from the same period the previous year. Due to higher load factors, passenger levels also increased, rising by 22% to 19 million. The airline's resumption of operations with its Airbus A350 aircraft, along with its cooperation with oneworld members and other strategic alliances in Europe, Australasia, and China, strengthened its revenue stream.
