Turkish Airlines opens 13th

Turkish Airlines has opened its 13th U.S. gateway in Detroit, Michigan, marking its 90th anniversary and continuing network development efforts in the U.S.

Following its 90th anniversary, Turkish Airlines, a top global airline, has opened its 13th U.S. gateway in Detroit, Michigan, as part of its ongoing network expansion efforts in the United States.

Turkish Airlines began offering flights from Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) on November 15, 2023, linking visitors from the Midwest to Istanbul, the country's tourism capital, and the airline's more than 340 destinations spread across 129 countries and five continents.

Turkish Airlines now uses its brand-new Boeing 787-9 aircraft to fly three weekly flights, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, between Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and Istanbul Airport. The airline will begin flying four times a week on December 25 and add Saturdays to the schedule. On November 15, at 3:45 p.m. local time, the inaugural flight, TK205, departed from Istanbul Airport (IST) and touched down at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) at 6:50 p.m. local time.

With the launch of Newark and Dallas in 2021 and its inaugural Pacific-Northwest route in Seattle in 2022, Turkish Airlines has been increasing its footprint in the United States in recent years. Denver will be the airline's fourteenth gateway, joining Detroit in 2023. With an annual target of 2 million visitors, the airline's ambitious growth objectives are reflected in these U.S. openings, which aim to boost U.S. travel to Turkey.
