Iranian Engineers Develop Cost-Effective Jet Engine Blades, Eyeing Global Markets
In a significant leap for Iran's aviation industry, a knowledge-based company under the Iran Power Plant Projects Management Company (MAPNA) Group has successfully mastered the production of jet engine turbine blades. Mani Rezvani, CEO of the subsidiary, revealed that Iranian scientists have engineered high-tech jet engine blades, vital for the turbine section of aircraft engines. This innovation is set to rehabilitate 28 grounded McDonnell Douglas passenger planes, which have been out of service due to sanctions restricting access to jet engine components.
The journey began with Iranian experts embarking on a reverse engineering project, culminating in the creation of a prototype of the JT8D engine blades. After two months of rigorous testing, the blades are on track to receive certification from the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran.
By June 20, the first Boeing MD passenger plane equipped with these Iranian-made engine blades will undertake its inaugural flight. Following this milestone, plans are in place for mass production and implementation in other engines, pending necessary authorizations.
The cost efficiency of the Iranian jet engine blades is notable, with a production cost of approximately $8,000 compared to the $22,000 price tag of foreign counterparts. Rezvani also highlighted the company's vision to extend beyond domestic use, with long-term plans to export these jet engine blades to Russia and nations in the Caucasus region.
This advancement not only signifies a triumph in overcoming sanctions but also positions Iran as a potential player in the global aviation market, offering cost-effective and high-tech solutions.
