The ASM BIG conference presents the ways big data is revolutionizing microbiology research, diagnostic, and health solutions across the globe.

The American Society of Microbiology (ASM) has declared the initiation of the ASM Bioinformatics, Genomics and Big Data Conference (ASM BIG), a new scientific conference intended to promote the application of big data to microbiology. The conference builds upon the previous event directed at next-generation sequencing and covers the entire data-driven ecosystem.

ASM BIG will reunite scholars and practitioners, as well as data scientists, to conceive advanced ground in the analysis of microbial genomes, metagenomics, pipelines of calculations, and integrative data analytics. The theme of the conference is to convert big data into action, as it underlines the importance of big data in addressing global problems.

"ASM BIG knows that the microbial sciences are going through a data revolution," added Todd J. Treangen, who is the Chair of the ASM BIG Program Committee. Our goal is to bring together the people responsible for creating data on the microbes and those who are converting the same data into scientific discoveries.

The conference will enrich cross-disciplinary collaboration with data producers, tool developers, and end-users directly interacting. The big data analytics have led to major areas of focus on environmental microbiomes, industry uses, infectious disease surveillance, and population health interventions.

Julie Dunning Hotopp, Vice Chair of the ASM BIG Program Committee, said, The NGS revolution has been the basis of the huge flagella quantities we examine now. ASM BIG is a continuation of that based on what microbial science can do at the present and the state of emerging AI-driven data solutions.

The first ASM BIG will be held on October 11-14, 2026, in Washington, D.C., and provide participants a chance to hear great scientific content, get some professional training, and connect people and introduce them to responsible and innovative use of big data.
