The association’s latest report showcases how snack makers are reducing emissions, conserving resources, and building a more sustainable food future for Europe.
The European Snacks Association (ESA) has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, outlining significant progress in sustainable agriculture, responsible sourcing, and environmental stewardship across the savory snacks industry. The report reflects the association’s belief that growing sustainably is not only good for the planet but essential for long-term business success.
ESA and its members continue to advance practices that protect natural resources and ensure the reliable supply of key raw materials for the future. Supporting the EU Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy, ESA reaffirms its commitment to building a truly sustainable food system through circular practices and responsible production.
Member companies are working across the entire supply chain, from crop irrigation and water conservation to energy efficiency and waste reduction, to minimize environmental impact. Many have already adopted renewable energy sources, upgraded logistics systems, and improved production efficiency to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Responsible sourcing also remains central to ESA’s approach. Members collaborate closely with suppliers to uphold strict standards on quality, safety, and ethical practices, often aligning with frameworks such as the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code.
Another key focus is sustainable packaging, with members seeking innovations that reduce waste while maintaining product quality. ESA has also joined the Circular Plastics Alliance, reinforcing its commitment to a circular economy and increased use of recycled materials in Europe’s snack industry.
