Formula 1 hopes to increase fan interest and involvement by building on the success of the sprint format and confirming venues until 2025.
Formula 1 announced its dedication to the popular sprint format by revealing the six locations that will hold races in the 2025 season. The races are scheduled to start with China's event on March 21–23. The races consist of a shorter competition on Saturday before the typical Grand Prix on Sunday. This announcement follows a successful 2024 season where sprint races contributed significantly to heightened audience engagement, drawing 40% higher live audience figures across F1's key markets compared to standard practice sessions.
The selected venues for 2025 include familiar settings such as Miami, Belgium, Austin, Brazil, and Qatar, each chosen to maximize spectator excitement and global appeal. Miami and Austin, renowned for their passionate motorsport followings, are expected to generate significant buzz among fans. Belgium, which reintroduced sprints in 2023, continues its role as a key European host.
F1 Chairman Stefano Domenicali expressed enthusiasm about the continued evolution of the sprint format, citing its success in enhancing race weekend dynamics without altering the core championship integrity. The sprint's separation from the traditional qualifying and race structure has been pivotal in attracting broader viewership and engaging new audiences.
Looking ahead to the milestone 75th anniversary of the F1 World Championship next season, stakeholders anticipate further innovations while preserving the sprint's current format. Discussions on potential adjustments are ongoing, with future updates aimed at refining the fan experience and sporting competitiveness.
