The first fashion week in Kyiv since the war highlights the determination of Ukrainian designers in the face of travel warnings and continuing conflicts.

For the first time since the start of the conflict, Ukrainian Fashion Week will return to Kyiv in September, showing unbelievable strength and resolve. Influencers, members of the local media, and professionals in the field are expected to attend the event in spite of several obstacles, such as travel warnings issued by the US and the UK because of the current violence.

Organizers, including Ushcheka, have been planning the return to Kyiv for the past six months, remaining hopeful that the situation does not worsen. “If the war intensifies… we can cancel,” Ushcheka told CNN. Fashion designer Ivan Frolov, born in Kyiv, echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the adaptability of the Ukrainian spirit. “We have a plan B, C, G, even Z,” he stated.

The event will feature Ukrainian designers showcasing their collections at home for the first time since the onset of the war. Previous seasons saw Ukrainian designers present their work in Berlin, London, and Copenhagen. In addition to the fashion shows, participating brands will donate funds to a new palliative care unit in Kyiv, supporting those with severe injuries.

Frolov, who has a deep emotional connection to Kyiv, expressed his eagerness to reinstate the city as a global fashion hub. “I want to reinstall Kyiv as one of the main cities of fashion in the world,” he declared, his eyes moist with emotion.
