Junior miner increases exploration in Dumbwa, which factors into strengthening Zambia's stature in the global copper belt.
Midnight Sun Mining is about to roll out a sixth drill rig early next year at its Dumbwa target for copper operations in Zambia, and it is a big step towards its exploration program and adds momentum to the metals and mining industry.
The Dumbwa project is found approximately 6 km south of First Quantum Minerals in the Kansanshi mine, which is in a copper district of global importance. Barrick Mining's Lumwana operation and Ivanhoe Mines' Kamoa-Kakula complex are also located in the area, and it is one of the most strategic locations on the African continent in terms of metals and mining activity.
Lumwana has a geological resemblance to Dumbwa, as pointed out by Midnight Sun, the vice president of business development, indicating its capacity for great scale. At the International Metals Symposium in London, O'Brien also stated that the company feels that it has proven its exploration thesis correct and that it has entered into a decisive growth period.
The increased drilling effort will help to provide more information on the nature and magnitude of the copper discovery that will make Midnight Sun a prominent junior in the metals and mining community. As the global copper demand intensifies, following the changing trends connected with the processes of electrification andenergy transition, the effective discoveries of copper at Dumbwa may get the industry interested.
With further drilling, the project will become a larger part of the Zambia metals and mining future, as well as the worldwide copper supply story.
