Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shatters Miami real estate records with a $170 million 'Billionaire Bunker' estate, fleeing California's proposed wealth tax for the exclusive security of Indian Creek Island.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have recently purchased a waterfront estate valued at $170 million on Miami’s exclusive Indian Creek Island. This transaction surpasses the previous record of $120 million, set just last year, thereby establishing a new record in residential real estate for Miami-Dade County. This purchase on March 2 follows the trend of California’s tech leadership, marking the move to Miami, with Zuckerberg’s real estate portfolio expanding significantly with this latest acquisition. Industry experts point to California’s proposed “billionaire tax” as the catalyst behind the ultra-rich relocating their base. In simple terms, the State of California aims to raise funds for education, healthcare, and social services by levying a one-time 5% wealth tax on individuals with assets exceeding $1 billion. Making the shift to Miami offers the chance to save billions of dollars for High net-worth executives like Zuckerberg, thereby becoming a lucrative proposition.
Zuckerberg’s property spans nearly two acres and is located prominently on 7 Indian Creek Island Road. The renowned architect Ferris Rafauli has designed the 30,000 square-foot limestone mansion that would serve as their residence. The estate is currently under construction and is said to offer state-of-the-art facilities for a premium lifestyle. The mansion would comprise nine bedrooms and 15 bathrooms, offering high-tech amenities like a 1500-gallon aquarium, a hair salon cum massage room, along with a well-equipped gym. A double-height library with a secret passageway and a jazz longue would complement a 60-foot waterfront pool and a private dock.
Moreover, Indian Creek is ranked among the most secure enclaves in the world. It boasts of its own private police force and 41 residential lots to create a “Billionaire Bunker”. Zuckerberg’s neighbors include personalities like Tom Brady, Ivanka Trump, and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Thus, the record-breaking deal that is only behind the $238 million purchase by Ken Griffin in New York firmly cements South Florida’s position as the preferred hub for the ultra-wealthy.
