Ardian acquired Energia in Ireland as part of the schemes to develop more and more renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, battery storage, and GH activities.
Ardian, a French private investment firm, has agreed with I Squared Capital and French to purchase 100 percent of Energia Group, one of the largest integrated energy utilities in Ireland. The deal is scheduled to be closed in the first quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory clearances and has a valuation of EUR 2.5 or more (USD 2.91bn) with reference to Energia.
Formerly Viridian, Energia has approximately 900,000 residential and commercial customers in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The company generates around 17 percent of the total electricity that is used and 20 percent of the total power of wind generation on the island. It has an Aircastle of renewable energy, generating flexibility on gas-based solutions, and solutions for customers with wind, solar, and battery storage investments continued to be developed.
It was also under the ownership of I Squared that Energia established a green hydrogen project and, in conjunction, co-created a 165 MW completely renewable energy data center in Dublin. The acquisition demonstrates Ardian's confidence in Energia's strategic location, particularly given the increasing electricity demand in Ireland..
Mohamed El Gazzar, a senior partner at I Squared Capital, provided details about one of the firm's largest exits. To enhance the next period of its growth, especially the development and management of renewable energy, Ardian noted that it will use its power in key infrastructure and the energy value chain in providing support to Energia.
The takeover becomes the first step taken by Ardian in Ireland and ascertains the dedication of the company to the development of renewable energy, green-power substructure, and expansion of the energy base in the region over a long period.
