Bangladesh Enforces Nationwide Security Measures Ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr

Law enforcement intensifies nationwide surveillance and patrols to ensure safe travel and residential security during Eid-ul-Fitr.

Bangladesh’s law enforcement agencies have implemented heightened security measures across the country and in the capital city of Dhaka, in preparation for the upcoming Eid celebrations. The police and its specialized arm, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), are coordinating efforts to secure residential areas, sensitive installations, and transit points, including bus terminals, railway stations, launch terminals, and ferry ghats. A week-long public holiday for the festival has resulted in a large-scale migration of people from the capital to their hometown districts. To prevent untoward incidents, RAB officials have also activated enhanced intelligence surveillance mechanisms, in addition to an increased physical presence on the ground.

In addition to these broad measures, Colonel Iftekhar Ahmed, Acting Director General of the RAB, inspected the overall security arrangements at the National Eidgah and Gabtoli Bus Terminal as part of the preparations. He assured that there would be no compromise over any “untoward incident or injustice.” According to him, “Terminals attract all kinds of people, including muggers and drug addicts. That is why I have directed all units across Bangladesh to deploy forces to ensure safe and orderly Eid travel.” Personnel have been deployed in adequate numbers across the country and are supported by control rooms, striking forces, foot and mobile patrols, vehicle scanners, observation and check posts, and CCTV monitoring systems.

Also, authorities have warned transporters against irregularities like overcharging and ticket manipulation. Transport hubs like Sadarghat and Sayedabad Bus Terminal are being monitored thoroughly, and passengers have been asked to report any such incidents to the RAB control room, which will operate 24/7 during this time. RAB has intensified patrols across key locations in Dhaka, with many residential areas vulnerable to theft and robbery in the wake of people returning home for Eid. The Bangladesh Coast Guard has also increased its patrolling at key river terminals, with personnel being deployed at major launch terminals, ferry ghats, and river crossings under its four operations of Dhaka, Bhola, Chattogram, and Mongla. According to CIO Bulletin, these security measures are a positive step in ensuring uninterrupted festivities for those celebrating this pious occasion with their families and loved ones.
