Russia launched a large-scale overnight drone and missile attack on Kyiv, triggering explosions across the Ukrainian capital as air defenses intercepted multiple aerial threats amid the ongoing war.
Hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that Russia was preparing a "massive" strike; the mayor of Kyiv reported that over a dozen people had died in a significant attack. According to Kyiv officials, Russia launched drones and ballistic missiles against Ukraine's capital during an 11-hour bombardment that resulted in extensive damage at 30 locations. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko reported that Russia drone attack killed 13 people and over 85 people had been injured in the attacks, including at least one child and other medical personnel injured in a hit on an ambulance substation.
“There have been very significant direct hits on residential buildings, where, unfortunately, the bodies of the deceased are being recovered from under the rubble.” - Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration.
According to Russia's Ministry of Defense, the country's armed forces carried out a "massive strike using high-precision, long-range weapons," including drones, aimed at energy and military facilities in Kyiv as well as the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions.
As the threat intensified, the president of Ukraine also abruptly left Dublin to return home. Around 8 p.m. local time, sirens started to sound, and many Kyiv residents sought refuge inside metro stations in anticipation of what turned out to be another night of continuous Russian bombardment.
While fires raged around the capital, emergency personnel kept up their rescue efforts all night.
According to the reports tracked by CIO Bulletin, the most recent assault coincided with Ukraine stepping up its long-range drone activities deep within Russian territory. The assault, which targets military infrastructure and energy installations, is part of a larger plan to put pressure on Moscow to stop the war, according to President Zelensky.
Russia's latest overnight drone and missile attack on Kyiv highlights the increasing reliance on coordinated aerial warfare to pressure Ukraine's military capabilities and civilian infrastructure. The strike underscores the persistent escalation of the conflict, with both sides continuing to intensify long-range attacks and security despite ongoing international diplomatic efforts.
