German industrial giant signals next phase of transformation as it strengthens focus on AI-driven smart buildings and energy systems.
Siemens is preparing for a significant leadership transition as it sharpens its focus on the future of smart infrastructure, the technology that powers intelligent buildings, energy systems, and sustainable cities.
The German engineering powerhouse has appointed Peter Koerte, currently its Chief Technology and Strategy Officer, to head its Smart Infrastructure division starting in July. He will succeed Matthias Rebellius, who will step down from the Managing Board.
Smart Infrastructure is one of Siemens’ most critical businesses. It develops digital systems that make buildings more energy-efficient, cities more sustainable, and power grids more reliable. From smart building controls to advanced energy management platforms, the division sits at the heart of the global push toward greener and more connected urban environments.
Koerte is widely credited with shaping Siemens’ artificial intelligence strategy, helping expand its AI portfolio across industries. His move into Smart Infrastructure signals a deeper integration of digital intelligence into physical infrastructure.
“With these decisions, the Supervisory Board is ensuring orderly and smooth succession planning and setting the course for the next phase of our transformation into ONE Tech Company,” said Supervisory Board Chairman Jim Hagemann Snabe.
Siemens believes that the future of infrastructure will be smarter, more digital, and powered by advanced technology and Peter Koerte is now tasked with leading that charge.
