In smart infrastructure, Wales is investing £10m in grants to 32 green energy projects, supporting locally owned renewable energy and Smart Local Energy Systems.

Worth £10 million, 32 community-based green energy projects have just been awarded grants from Welsh Government for the year 2025. As part of these projects, the installation of solar panels, heat pumps, and electric vehicle charging points will not only transform local communities but will also be part of adding smart infrastructure.

It forms part of the Ynni Cymru programme, which had been committed to developing Smart Local Energy Systems for sustainable and locally managed energy. Rebecca Evans, Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, added that this trend highlighted the ever increasing importance of anyone paying attention to such an energy network. "That's why we will be ensuring the benefits stay in communities by supporting this sort of local community project even while large scale infrastructure works are ongoing."

It will bring forwards the clean energy systems in which schools, care homes and other local facilities will benefit and help meet the wider Wales low carbon targets.
