Patagonia Advances Climate Goals through Supply Chain

The new sustainability report of Patagonia includes ambitious sustainability supply chain management plans to be implemented by 2040 to reach net-zero.

Patagonia has published its first sustainability progress report, which includes a full-scale plan that experiences supply chain management at the heart of its net-zero initiative. As the apparel industry produces around 2% of the world's emissions, the company has an opportunity to change the way it does business and source materials throughout the network of 45 countries.

Instead of carbon offsets, Patagonia uses the strategy of refinement of the supply chain management processes in order to prevent polluting in the first place. According to the company, 98 percent of the total facilities owned by it were already using renewable electricity by FY2025, and the remaining 2 percent are scheduled to follow. Its reporting is still based on transparency and accountability, taking into consideration the effects on the environment and introducing specific measures.

One of the greatest places of interest is that Patagonia pledges to source materials responsibly. In FY2025, 93 percent of polyester and 89 percent of nylon were to be recycled, enhancing its sustainability and waste minimization objectives. By 2025, the company will have tried to do away with virgin petroleum-based synthetics altogether, a move that helps it to strengthen its system of sustainable supply chain management.

The industry is also collaborating on sustainability initiatives. In April 2025, Patagonia was among the founders of the Brands for Public Lands coalition, which by April 2028 had grown to 100 companies and demanded the protection of land and ethical business practices.

CEO Ryan Gellert stressed that the actual climate action would involve facing discomforting realities under the supply chain management instead of evading them through industry associations, which uphold antagonism towards environmental change.

According to Patagonia, its report highlights the fact that considerable sustainability extends beyond gestures; it requires investment over the long term, creativity and responsibility throughout the entire value chain.
