Syngenta Opens Cropwise Digital Platform for Global Developers to Bridge Agrotech’s Gap

Syngenta’s move aims to make AI-powered farming more inclusive, accessible, and trusted for growers of every size around the world.

Global agricultural leader Syngenta has announced the launch of the Cropwise Open Platform, inviting developers worldwide to co-innovate and create new digital tools that help close the technology divide in farming.

Built on the success of Cropwise, Syngenta’s AI-driven farm management platform that already supports over 70 million hectares of farmland across 30+ countries, the new open ecosystem enables third-party developers to integrate their own agronomic models, apps, and digital services directly into the platform.

Recent research by IPSOS, conducted in partnership with Syngenta, revealed a growing digital divide between large and small farms. Larger farms are advancing rapidly in adopting AI and digital tools, while smaller farmers are struggling to keep pace. The study also found that many older farmers perceive AI as complex, despite already using it through drones and imagery systems, with trust and data control emerging as key factors influencing adoption.

Feroz Sheikh, Syngenta’s Chief Information and Digital Officer, described the initiative as a major step toward inclusivity in digital agriculture. “AI can be the great equalizer in farming, but only if it’s accessible, affordable, and trusted,” he said. “By opening Cropwise to developers, we’re creating a collaborative network with farmers at the center, empowering them to choose the tools that fit their needs while staying in control of their data.”

Through this initiative, Syngenta aims to accelerate innovation and ensure that the benefits of digital agriculture reach every farmer, regardless of size, location, or resources.
