OceanX has a new mission exploring the ocean in the UAE, partnering with The Environment Agency. This international collaboration is set to research unchartered waters.
OceanX, a global organization dedicated to ocean exploration, in collaboration with The Environment Agency — Abu Dhabi (EAD), G42, and Bayanat, will be sending a unique mission team to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In collaboration with these partners, OceanX will undertake fishery evaluations to produce environmentally sustainable fishing gear and techniques, as well as construct the first-ever comprehensive map of the UAE's ocean ecosystem. The mission will take place in two halves during the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference.
The east coast of the UAE has uncharted seas, but what makes them special is that they are among the world's warmest due to their short depths and high salinity. In order to establish a baseline of the aquatic ecosystems in the UAE, OceanX will provide the special capabilities of OceanXplorer, the most sophisticated research vessel in the world.
OceanX contributes to the scientific understanding of how life may adapt to harsh temperatures and the implications this has for the future of the ocean by investigating extreme settings such as this one. Thus, this research will provide exciting opportunities for scientific understanding and real-world applications while assisting in the formulation of informed decisions for the long-term preservation and conservation of the ocean.
The information and techniques acquired during the OceanX mission will come together to create a strong basis for ocean management decision-making in the UAE and provide access to more readily available ocean health analysis.
