Riyadh hosting 2030 World Expo

The Saudi capital, Riyadh, beat out Rome and South Korea's port city, Busan, to host the 2030 World Expo after bidding on building a prosperous and sustainable future.

After submitting a bid that emphasized creating a wealthy and sustainable future, Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, defeated Rome and Busan, the port city of South Korea, to host the 2030 World Expo, which is anticipated to bring millions of tourists. The decision was made by members of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions in a closed-door meeting in the Issy-les-Moulineaux area with a majority of 119 votes out of 165. Rome received 17 votes, and Busan received 29. The Saudi delegation celebrated the outcome with cheers.

A significant public transportation system and a futuristic, circular area featuring public parks, e-gaming facilities, big-screen performance spaces, and sporting stadiums are part of Saudi Arabia's ambitions. The goal of the initiative is to "accelerate innovations" in order to protect natural ecosystems.

Saudi Arabia anticipates 40 million tourists visiting its capital city as a result of the Expo.

With the stakes high, every city intensified its campaign, presenting distinctive ideas and audacious pledges to win the rights to the highly coveted event held throughout the world.

Saudi Arabia launched a major marketing campaign that included large-scale advertising in Paris and a "Riyadh 2030" installation close to the Eiffel Tower. In an effort to broaden the economy of the kingdom and increase its prominence internationally, the Saudi bid was endorsed by French President Emmanuel Macron.
