RETN enables Lithuania's telecom network upgrade to 500G capacity and enables improved regional connectivity and the capacity to meet increasing Baltic data and cloud demand.
International network services provider RETN has introduced an upgrade to its Lithuanian fiber network ring with a major improvement to telecom infrastructure in the Lithuanian cities of Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, and other cities and towns, including the cities of Siauliai and Panevzys.
Together with one of the fiber service providers, Skaidula, RETN has implemented 100G DWDM transponders on major regional telecom routings. This will supplement the already existing Nx100G and Nx400G services with Vilnius and Kaunas. The upgrade increases the existing capacity to 500G, with the potential to reach 1.2 Tbps, thereby addressing the soaring data needs in the Baltic.
According to RETN, the improvement increases the regional telecom connectivity of five major cities and strengthens Vilnius and Kaunas as strategic telecom hubs for its international backbone. The step enhances the role of Lithuania to connect with European cities such as Warsaw, Stockholm, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam.
The upgrade is part of a wider project RETN has, which involves expanding its IP and DWDM backbone to accommodate more traffic in Lithuania, where the IT and data hosting industry and the local unicorns are developing.
Timur Pertenava, the commercial director at Nordic & Baltic RETN, indicated that the upgrade of the infrastructure will be in favor of global carriers, cloud providers, and local companies looking forward to using robust telecom solutions.
