Virtual Summit Sparks Action on Environmental Sustainability in Africa

The virtual event showcases young people's creative actions that contribute to improving the environment in Africa.

To mark the 2025 Global Earth Day Summit, Climalearnation and Women in Mining Nigeria organized a virtual event entitled Our Power, Our Planet to demonstrate the importance of faster progress on environmental sustainability. Experts and groups from different sectors of society participated in the initiative to discuss meaningful ways to protect the environment.

Ruth Chigbo, who leads Climalearnation, advocated for everyone playing their part and taking personal actions to save the environment. The platform’s purpose, as she outlined, is to help attendees’ access tools and ideas that support a lasting positive impact.

At the event, Peter Ayeni discussed the use of new ideas and tech tools to help the environment and Ichor Joshua provided information about providing clean water to people in Sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Janet Adeyemi urged people and governments to keep acting on climate to solve global environmental issues.

Both presenters and project supporters among the young leaders discussed new ideas for building resilience against climate change. The Youth Recognition Program also honored excellence in youth and awarded Theophilus Venn, Edesiri Ovuodeforen and John Tosin Adekunle for their green projects.

By means of talks, acts and the views of experts, the event made it clear that creativity and cooperation play a major role in advancing environmental sustainability across Africa and around the world.
