Western Australia’s ambitious new clean energy fund is set to transform the state’s grid, promising reliable power for one million homes and a greener industrial future.
In a move that signals a bold shift toward a sustainable future, the Western Australian Government has unveiled a massive $1.003 billion (AU$1.4 billion) fund. This strategic investment is designed to rapidly expand the state’s renewable power network, ensuring that both households and businesses can access cleaner, more affordable electricity.
The initiative, a cornerstone of the 2026–27 State Budget, focuses on high-impact transmission projects. The flagship "Clean Energy Link (CEL) – East" will bridge the gap between new wind and solar farms and the main grid, providing enough juice to power approximately one million homes by 2029. This follows the momentum of "CEL – North," which is already strengthening the lines between Malaga and Three Springs.
Together, these projects are expected to pump 3 gigawatts of green energy into the system while creating 800 local jobs. Beyond the big cities, an extra $7 million is being funneled to Horizon Power to bring modern energy upgrades to regional gems like the Kimberley and the Pilbara.
“This critical project will create hundreds of local jobs and allow us to capitalise on our state's abundant wind and solar resources,” stated Amber-Jade Sanderson, WA Energy and Decarbonisation Minister.
For a state known for its industrial prowess, this clean energy fund Australia is more than just an environmental pledge; it’s an economic engine. By streamlining approvals through the State Development Act, Western Australia is fast-tracking its journey to becoming a global renewable powerhouse, a transition CIO Bulletin continues to monitor closely.
