CIOBulletin - Andhra Pradesh Boosts Medical Technology with CDSCO Approval

The new auditing organization, the first of this kind in India to get the approval of the CDSCO, pushes the state's medical technology and the scope of its manufacturing, as well as the efficiency of regulatory practices.

One of the previous largest breakthroughs in medical technology was the adoption of the first-ever Indian state hosting a CDSCO-notified auditing body in the manufacturing of medical devices, which comprises Andhra Pradesh. KIHT Certification Services (KCS) has been accepted as a qualified inspection body by the Central Drug Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) to conduct inspections of Class A and B medical devices.

KCS functions as a subsidiary of the Kalam Institute of Health Technology (KIHT) that has made KCS legitimately permitted to inspect the manufacturing plants solely, giving a boost to the medical technology infrastructure in India. The KIHT has in the past supported medical technology innovation and developments, and the KIHT being on the AMTZ campus will further support the position of Andhra Pradesh as a leader in the MedTech industry.

KCS provides many different services, such as ISO 13485 certification or CE mark consultancy, which assist manufacturers in matching international guidelines. This certification has enabled MSMEs to evade the expensive out-of-state audits, saving their time and resources in the process.

This initiative serves as a stepping stone towards the Government of India's 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' movements, and it will position Andhra Pradesh as a major hub in the international supply chain of medical technology.
