With the holiday season quickly approaching, the time to book flights is now. Especially since flights are particularly subject to changing suddenly with weather conditions and otherwise. Additionally, we’d all like to find tickets as cheaply as possible.
Nonetheless, finding a cheap flight isn’t always easy. Even with several deals, more often than not, flights will be the largest expense of any trip.
This brilliant hack fills that need. A TikTok creator, @sam_jarman, explains how to use Google Flights to find the most affordable flights. However, it won't be beneficial unless a few circumstances coincide with your trip.
Sam Jarman discusses an easy Google Flights search hack. He suggests never doing a direct search with an airline when looking for the cheapest flights for your upcoming trip. Instead, you can make significant savings by using a few obscure search options in Google's flight booking service.
Step 1: Go to https://www.google.com/flights
Step 2: Pick the number of passengers, the travel class, and the type of ticket (round-trip, one-way, or multi-city).
Step 3: Add the cities you'll be traveling to and from, along with the dates.
Step 4: Click search, and related flights will be displayed.
Step 5: You can narrow down search results by the number of stops, the airlines, the departure and arrival times, the length of the layover, the connecting airports, and more.
Step 6: The sort order can be changed to show the most affordable, timely, and long-haul flights.
Step 7: Click on the arrow next to the price to view a flight's details. Then, select the flight to see your options for paying for the flight.
If your travel dates are open, you can view the cheapest flights by date using the calendar view, date grid, or price graph options.
While Google Flights has both pros and cons, overall, the pros outweigh the cons. These are Google Flights' pros:
Does this, therefore, just sound like one of those scams that are too good to be true? That depends, I guess.
There are some limitations to the hack, but it does work. On the one hand, many travelers might not have the flexibility in their schedules to change their travel dates in order to book flights at a lower price.
Additionally, only economy fares will be displayed when booking flights using the hack, so there might be additional travel restrictions like fewer seat options or checked baggage. Travelers might end up paying more than they intended to if the flight needs to be canceled because it cannot be changed.
If you are a flexible traveler, such as a digital nomad, however, this hack might be the best option for you. Additionally, you can book above the level of the basic economy fare in Google Flights customizations to generate more options.
